One of the first things I did was complete a website audit, because during my research, I noticed some bugs and areas of improvement on their website. I bring qualities to the table such as honesty, clear communication, and problem-solving. A month after I started at RETI, I noticed that the amount I was being paid did not match the hours that I worked. I immediately brought it to my supervisor’s attention that I was being overpaid, and I provided a plan to rectify the situation. Working at RETI, I wore many hats because it is a small organization. I have experience as a content creator, editor, grant writer, program manager, and overall operations management. Through my role at RETI, I fostered a partnership with a solar developer and solar financer to provide smart home education and rooftop solar for a family in an under-resourced neighborhood. I designed and implemented the application and selection process of the homeowner, and maintained a relationship with Sharon, the homeowner, and various stakeholders throughout the entire project. I still check-in on Sharon to see how she is enjoying her rooftop solar system. Sharon says that she still loves to watch the meter run backwards when the panels are producing electricity.

Earlier that spring, I collaborated with the OWRR director to create an intern position for myself to expand the on-campus composting program. As a member of student government, our committee’s first attempt at a composting program hit many roadblocks my first year. My sophomore year, with a new design, we successfully launched the program in 4 locations, and without losing momentum, I took a deep dive into the program to plan for long-term growth through my internship. Through collaboration and hard work, the program grew from 30 participants to over 200 in two years. The organization structures I put in place have allowed the program to continue to grow after I passed the torch. That summer, I had a very full plate, but I balanced competing priorities, stayed organized and honed in my time-management skills. I also learned that I have limits and by taking time to recharge, I am more productive in my work.
