In my role as firm general counsel, I advise the firm and its lawyers on a broad range of evolving legal and risk management issues, including legal ethics and professional responsibility, employment law, privacy, and cybersecurity. I also advise firm lawyers and firm clients on complex attorney-client privilege issues, including privilege issues unique to in-house counsel. Working alongside the firm's human resources, business intake/accounting, and information security teams, I provide insight and guidance to the firm's operational functions. I actively support the firm’s continuing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts as a member of the firm's DEI committee and Mansfield Rule certification working group, and through leadership of internal initiatives. As a litigator, I have represented clients in complex commercial disputes, corporate governance disputes, financial services litigation, and governmental and internal investigations, including litigation before North Carolina trial and appellate courts and a successful appeal to the United States Supreme Court. My experience includes managing crisis communications planning and execution with external and internal communications teams and executive leadership. I also have experience representing landowners in eminent domain cases, including successful jury awards in condemnation cases.
