I am an information law specialist helping clients with all aspects of data protection and freedom of information. I am a qualified solicitor and a qualified EU GDPR Data Protection Practitioner. Having previously been Head of Information Law at a large law firm, I have experience of advising all manner of organisations on information law issues, including schools, companies and charities.I am the Managing Director of my own company (www.kategrimleyevans.co.uk) which specialises in data protection training and compliance audits. I also work as a Consultant Solicitor through Summerfield Browne and Stone King LLP.I have a part time role as a Fee Paid Member of the Upper Tribunal assigned to the Administrative Appeals Chamber (Information Rights Jurisdiction) and First Tier Tribunal General Regulatory Chamber (Information Rights Jurisdiction). Recently, I was appointed by the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to serve as a member of the Advisory Council on the National Records and Archives for a 3 year term starting on 15th September 2022.I have acted for a number of high profile charities and I am the author of the leading guidance on data protection and information law matters for the museums’ sector. I have considerable expertise providing information law advice to the education sector, including academy trusts and independent schools, where my combined knowledge and experience of both education law and data protection/information law is extremely useful. I am currently writing the chapter about state schools for an Oxford University Press book on data protection.I have a very high success rate in relation to ICO data protection complaints. My work following a serious data protection breach by a client helped to secure an outcome of 'no further action' from the ICO due largely to the quality and speed of the breach management procedure. I have also helped a client in the aftermath of an ICO audit leading the client to describe my advice as 'invaluable'. A client in the further education sector for whom I carried out a large data protection compliance audit was very pleased with my approach and the detailed report and recommendations which I produced.
