In the summer, my current position transitions into a wildland firefighting role. I help lead teams in initial attack to wildfire incidents and handle a variety of machinery. These machines range from large type 4 engines that carry 1,000 gallons of water to smaller pumps that transfer water from creeks and watering holes directly to a fire. This positions requires me to be adaptable and confident as I am commonly put into leadership roles in fast paced situations.During the fall, winter, and spring I work for ODF as a forest management technician (FMT). I help manage the western lane fuels crew. I schedule jobs, complete site assessments and evaluations, and work on the jobs alongside the crew that specializes in fuel reduction. I also have the opportunity to help write the state and federal grants that fund our work.During my time as a Forest Management Technician, I have built my writing, customer service, GIS/computer, and organizational skills. From working outside with the crew, I have also built more physical and mechanical skills including chainsaw/weed-eater maintenance skills, cutting techniques for trees, and general usage skills of a chipper.Some ArcGIS skills I am well versed in include Field Maps, Survey 123, and Story Maps. I also often use and am proficient in excel, microsoft, and outlook. Most recently while working directly with the community wildfire forester, I have helped brainstorm, write, and present a community assistance grant for 300,000 dollars. This proposal was one of three accepted out of nine total applications within other ODF agencies. I am continuing to help assist in the development of grants as they are presented. Working with ODF's office admin for Veneta, I have helped develop and edit the 2022 annual report for all sectors the western lane district.I also have had the opportunity to work with firewise and residents interested in becoming a nationally recognized firewise community.
