I’m a problem solver. My passion is working with a team to create a UX vision. A vision of how UX can be integrated throughout the software lifecycle and allow us to advocate for users at every step. I believe in data-driven design and live by the mantra, ‘You are not the user’. I believe that the best approach is to get out there and do some research. Meet your users. I love working to coach a team on research best practices, advocating for them to get out there, and supporting how those findings are used throughout the company. Finally, I believe in a strong collaborative environment. Working closely with a cross functional team of research, design, and engineering is the best way to understand the realities of where user needs and systems constraints must be carefully managed to create a beautiful experience.

Human Factors Engineer / Ux ResearchGeneral Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada Jul 2016 - Nov 2021Calgary, Canada AreaScrum master for the HFE team operating in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).• Coordination and collaboration with scrum masters from within and across ARTs to enable and support the scrum team to close stories. Communicating blockers to management and determining how best to remove them.• Maintenance of stories and features in RTC for each sprint.• Facilitating sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand ups to ensure the scrum team is on track and able to meet commitments.User analysis and usability trials. • Planning and execution of analyses and usability trials. This includes determining needs based on planned features. • Determining the best research approach to collect the type of data required. Activity development and script creation.• Creation of prototypes ranging in fidelity (paper prototypes to clickable prototypes developed with axure). Collaboration with mechanical engineering to use 3D printing to develop early hardware prototypes, or with firmware teams to develop test firmware.• Development of analysis plans. Analyses were typically prioritized based on a combination of what to feed in to the agile release train. E.g., What features were ready for system engineering to begin designing and what features needed to be completed first for development teams to pick up.• Reporting and dissemination of usability and user analysis results and recommendations. Analyses included both quantitative stats such as Friedman tests, ANOVAs, t-tests, and Chi-square, as well as qualitative analyses including thematic analyses of focus group discussions.Design Work• Architectural design of complex systems requiring collaboration with systems engineering and development teams to determine the best possible solutions to meet both user needs and contract requirements.• Interface design of system sections following style guides laid out by design leads. Asset creation, and QSS styling communicated to firmware teams. -
Ux ResearchRobots And Pencils May 2014 - Jul 2016Calgary, Canada AreaDeveloped standardized internal research processes for an agile environment that are applied to all projects.Facilitating workshops with clients in early project stages to develop a guiding project statement. Creating and executing on custom research plans for projects of various scopes. These typically include a needs assessment phase, internal evaluations of designs for each sprint, and user testing with both low and high fidelity prototypes. Analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data and presenting the key research findings and recommendations to clients. -
Graduate Student, Research AssistantPerception And Cognitive Aging Lab Sep 2012 - May 2014Calgary, Canada AreaHazard Perception in Emergency Service Responders (Lead) - Assessing the impact that emergency vehicle operations have on general hazard perception ability by administering a dynamic hazard perception test. EMS Hazard Perception Focus Group (Lead) - Facilitator of focus groups asking EMS personnel about their experiences operating emergency vehicles. The goals of the sessions were to gain an understanding of the hazards commonly encountered and to learn how driving with lights and sirens may differ from driving cold. Currently completing manuscript for submission.Evaluation of DriveSharp (Lead) - Assessment of DriveSharp's training impact and usability for seniors. Assessments were completed using a variety of psychometric tests that have been shown to reliably relate to on-road performance, including a dynamic hazard perception test. Currently completing manuscript for submission.
