    As the point person for many of our contact forms, ways, and means, my work has become even more essential to the University Libraries. I review of the virtual reference platform, as well as working several live chat shifts per week. I am the point person for LibAnswers, and managed the transition from QuestionPoint. I train new staff members, manage the institutional scripts, and am co-chair of the Frontline Reference Coordinators. I am also one of two User Experience librarians, serving on several committees, making recommendations on behalf of our diverse student population. I also am managing a special UX project, studying a space within the libraries, which includes managing a student employee. New to this position is the role of LibGuides Co-Administrator; managing accounts, managing transitions pages due to staffing changes, new user training, managing taxonomy, checking and updating links periodically, and performing other “clean up” projects as needed. I also gather and report statistics annually. There are also other duties as assigned, including teaching Introduction to Library Services, researching, writing, and publishing. I play a key role in the St. Paul campus libraries' management as needed, as well as participating in the libraries' outreach initiatives. Lately this has included facilitating DEI conversations in our department.In addition to this work, I also serve on many other committees including the Civil Service Committee, CSSC Database review, Teaching and Learning Assessment, and Technology Rich User Spaces Taskforce (TRUST). All of these have pivoted to better support our students and the Libraries' mission during the time of Covid.

    I managed the effort to weed duplicates from thirteen different libraries; I have pulled over 112,500 items. I was a supervisor in the Rare Books Move from one library to the special collections on campus. I assisted in the effort to convert the basement level of the library to Collaboration space. I also moved 3000 items from the Walter Reference Room into storage. I corrected catalog records and bibliographic records where there are errors and assist with other cataloging projects as they come up. I directly managed student employees and support them as they pulled books from the various libraries. I supported an intern who was later hired as a temporary worker. I co-authored a new department student employee manual.I reached out to the Child Development Center to recycle our markers, further reducing the library's carbon footprint (a goal of the University and myself). I identified and pulled books for an exhibit at the Weisman Art Museum, “The Section of Disapproved Books.”

    This project was a significant audit of Minnesota Public Radio’s metadata and schema workflow and datasets, resulting in documentation of audit findings and focused recommendations based on testing. The micro-projects of MPR’s NDSR—titled Schema, Public Record, Disambiguation, and Marketplace Archive—resulted in levels of documentation, recommendations, and implementations that can have distinct applications and will together create a comprehensive approach to managing MPR’s archive metadata. The micro-projects included: assess the environment, design and apply patterns to improve the environment, and through these observations recommend a structure-preserving and structure-enhancing transformation that will be able to unfold continually within the current MPR ecosystem. The result was processes or procedures that actually generate living structure—vibrant within the MPR metadata environment and in the other structures that metadata touches, improving upon MPR’s digital initiatives, innovations, and relationships in the public media and preservation sphere.This project was under the umbrella of the National Digital Stewardship Residency Program, founded by the Library of Congress in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the pilot year of the project was in 2013-2014. Since then, the project had grown and for the first time, American Archive of Public Broadcasting started a residency of its own.     Photo InventoryThe spreadsheet I created (over 19,000 entries) took up most of my time. It will eventually be available for use as a finding aid to the public. Digitization Work FlowsOnce I identified gaps in the digitized photos, I scanned 65 4x5 negatives and 32 8x10s. I developed a workflow for doing scans of negatives, focusing primarily on the 4x5s. I came up with a mockup for a visual finding aid. This is a secondary step, to be done after the scanning of one section is done, or in very large chunks as you finish them. Ranger 7 DisplayMy role in the 50th anniversary Ranger 7 display was to support Julie. I went and found items in the cold vault, helped edit the slide show presentation, and assisted with the cleaning of the model. I also helped repair some of the pieces of the model.Review/ProcessingWe sorted through some Viking photos that were sent to us, re-boxed them, created an inventory, and I tracked down a link to a similar collection on the NSSDC website. I inventoried four boxes of records that I pulled from storage. It turned out that these records were truly temporary. Julie had a small box from a woman whose father worked on Lab as a project manager. I did a basic inventory/organization of the collection. I photographed the ephemera and added the thumbnails to the finding aid before storing everything according to archival standards. I started the cataloging process. ExplorationJulie was really encouraging of me going to lectures and events around the Lab. I learned so much more than I ever thought I would. I never expected I would love Saturn and its rings and moons so much.I am proud of the work I did here. The inventory of the photograph collection was more massive than anyone realized, and is what I am most proud of. I didn’t expect to help with a Russian translation! That was so much fun, and I got to use muscles in my brain that I haven’t been stretched in ages.

    As MHS is the repository for the state's government, the state's newspapers, and serves the state as a public archive, the scope of the collection is vast and fascinating. In only 130 hours, I learned so much about Minnesota's history, but also about how to organize, protect, and provide access to this treasure trove. Mainly, I utilized the collection for internal research and for reference purposes. I moved 29 of the existing "history topics" to a LibGuide system, which including updating information (where appropriate) and technical edits. I also created two new LibGuides; Gratia Alta Countryman and Landmark Center. This involved original research in the collection (and outside the collection), selecting which materials would be appropriate to include, writing short overview essays, and revising and editing. Another set of research projects was biographical in nature. I completed biographies of the Gale Family and Frederick Weyerhaeuser. The first resulted in a handout for patrons interested in the naming of the Gale Family Library. The second resulted in a museum label for the portrait of Weyerhaeuser in the reading room. I also worked on the registration desk; greeting visitors, registering and checking in patrons, and directing them to either of the library's rooms. I also answered reference questions via email. I also assisted with group visits to the library, selecting materials for a tour and introducing them, as well as individual researchers in these groups, as they did their research in the reading room. I also did several informational interviews and shadow shifts to experience as many parts of the library (and cogs in the wheel) as I could. I have a fuller understanding of the library at MHS, and this experience has been beyond my expectations.
