The Chief of Staff serves as a senior advisor to the Chancellor and reports directly to the Chancellor on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the Chancellor's office and its priorities. The Chief of Staff, with the support of the Executive and Special Assistants, coordinates the execution of University-wide projects undertaken by the Chancellor as well as handling questions, concerns, issues, and requests on the Chancellor's behalf. This position serves as the University Records Custodian and serves on the Chancellor's Cabinet.

This position provides services in support of the orderly and efficient operation of both the chancellorship and the Office of the Chancellor. The Special Assistant serves as a senior member of the University's administrative leadership team. In that role, this cabinet member position oversees various administrative functions, processes and services. The scope of these duties can range from internal administrative organization or operation to all aspects of the university's external relations.
