I have been a primary school teacher for the last 17 years, teaching in schools in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. In that time, I have mainly taught in KS2 Y4-Y6.Previous to teaching, I worked as a marketing assistant and later as a marketing executive. I trained to teach in 2007.In 2010, I discovered 'Growth & Fixed Mindset' research compiled by Prof. Carol Dweck at Stamford University. I was intrigued about how to bring the findings and theoretical ideas practically, on a day-to-day basis into the classroom and without realising, I embarked on a huge journey that completely changed how I taught. It became the foundation of my classroom as I endeavoured to nudge children more into a growth rather than fixed mindset in their learning - legitimising the fixed mindset is a big part of this as we ALL fall into this Mindset sometimes, particularly when we're doing something new, and that's OK.This interest, which has subsequently become a passion and driving force, now also as a parent as well as a teacher in the primary classroom, is that I have self-published 4 books on this topic. I have now made the decision to leave the classroom in a teacher role because I want more time to focus my efforts in this particular area to impact more children. I have loved watching children begin to blossom and talk in new ways about learning because there are some fundamental beliefs we have tackled together. I have now teamed up with the 'MiniMe Mindfulness' franchise in order to focus in on teaching children mindset skills alongside mindfulness which is a massive component of controlling our mindset as it tackles self-regulation and the emotional side to life and learning.With anxiety in children reaching record levels, an impact that has been significantly observerable over the last few years whilst teaching, I am excited to get out there and reach as many children with some extremely valuable skills that will support both the here and now but also the rest of their lives. MiniMe Mindfulness is about supporting children with 'superpowers' right now to help them self regulate and know how to calm their own nervous systems. This is how to build resilience in our young, skills that many adults could benefit from themselves.
