Kate is a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist at a therapeutic preschool in Brooklyn, N.Y. She provides push-in and pull-out therapy, working in the classroom and the therapy room. Her goal is to provide the most inclusive and supportive environment possible for her students. She works with children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration disorders, articulation and phonological difficulties, childhood apraxia of speech, and feeding challenges. Prior to this job, she worked at City Sounds of NY, providing intervention, screenings, evaluations, and consultations. During her time there, she worked in a variety of public and charter schools in New York City. She presented at parent and professional development workshops. The charter schools that she worked with include: The Harlem Children Zone, Achievement First, Uncommon Schools, and The Ethical Community Charter School. Kate also saw private clients in an office setting.Special interests include: receptive and expressive language delay, autism spectrum disorder, processing delay, literacy, gestalt language processing, and AAC.Kate uses a holistic approach in her therapy. She believes that family involvement, and a healthy lifestyle fosters brain development and the enhancement of communication skills. She believes that children grow in environments where they are exposed to multiple forms of learning, such as hands on, auditory, and visual learning. She enjoys working with other professionals and parents to educate and assist in creating individualized plans to maximize children's development. She believes that regulation and connection are key components to therapy. She is a neurodiversity-affirming therapist who values the diversity of human neurological function. She believes all forms of communication are valid.Kate specializes in using photography, art, and music to improve children's language use.
