As an environmental consultant within the construction industry, I provide advice on sustainable, low carbon building design and construction, predominantly in the residential sector. I am passionate about reducing the environmental impact of buildings and improving the quality of design and build.I have expertise in health and wellbeing and the impact of buildings on their occupants. I contributed to the UK Green Building Council’s report 'Health and Wellbeing in Homes' and I am also a certified WELL AP.My background in chemistry provides a strong foundation for many of the technical aspects of environmental design, particularly in relation to air quality, sustainable materials, and pollution impacts. I have built on this knowledge further by achieving an MSc in Environmental Design at the Welsh School of Architecture (which I did via part time distance learning whilst working full time).A key interest for me is post occupancy evaluation and working with clients and designers to reduce the performance gap. Current projects involve monitoring of energy consumption, thermal comfort, fabric efficiency and occupant satisfaction to determine whether buildings are fit for purpose and to improve operational efficiency. As part of this, I sit on the BUS Methodology Partnership for occupant satisfaction evaluation.In my current role I lead Hodkinson's Building Performance and Simulation Team which includes line management and leadership in addition to technical responsibilities.I am a full member of CIBSE and the Institution of Environmental Sciences and am both a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Scientist.
