About Kate Petterson, P.E.
“I’m competitive, I love to learn, and I love to serve people,” states Kate Petterson. “Throughout my career in engineering and real estate, I have been able to forge relationships that are key to maintaining a healthy professional life while serving my community. I have learned a lot over the years in terms of education, learning new skills, perseverance, and overcoming challenges I never knew I would face.”Highly-organized and detail-oriented, Kate is a planner and an excellent networker. She knows how to pull people together to get the job done, a skill she first developed as a graduate civil engineer designing bridges, roadway planning, environmental planning, and roadway design. “That initial experience taught me to stay on top of things, to prioritize tasks, to use my time wisely, and to pursue projects that I was interested in. I also relate to a wide variety of people, which is very important given the nature of our wide variety of clients.”Kate’s community and professional commitments look a bit different now since making her way back to the Houston area after 5 years, but she’s hoping to get back into the swing of things fairly quickly. “Right when we got back, I told my husband, ‘I need to get involved. I want to be more active in our community. What does that look like now?’ So I called our new Pastor at our church and told him we wanted to start a Community Group of young parents. I’ve re-joined the Society of American Military Engineers. And I hope to become more involved in local policy matters.”Kate and her husband have 2 daughters and a son. They run a small family business on the weekends and enjoy spending time with their extended families whenever they can.

Realtor
Realtor
I work very hard as a Realtor to stay up-to-date on the market and to understand the different contracts and forms needed for individual transactions. I try to focus my clients within and around the inner 610 loop but I'm more than happy to serve my clients anywhere in the Greater Houston area. My passion is for renters who are seeking to start earning equity by buying a home! I bought my first house just 1 year after graduating college and it was the best investment decision I ever made. I work with integrity and complete confidence and would love to help you find the home of your dreams.
Engineer Ii
I was a member of our environmental group and helped with wetland delineations, EIS's, EA's, and other NEPA processes. I coordinated between the environmental group and engineering group in order to complete technical designs and environmental documents. In order to learn more about sales and developing relationships with clients, I assisted a Client Service Team Leader to create and enhance strategic relationships with current clients. I also represented HNTB within organizations and at different events around the city - including participating in a Community Leaders Board for City of Houston Council Member Bradford's initiative to increase the number and size of after-school programs. I enjoyed collaboration within my office as well as getting out in the community and learning about what kinds of projects will be happening in the future and how HNTB could be at the forefront of winning the opportunity to work on those projects.Technically, before joining the Environmental Group, I worked mainly with the bridge and roadway groups. I am proficient with various bridge programs - BGS, PGSuper, RCPIER, Wincore, and Cap18. I aided in bridge superstructure and substructure design for multiple projects - IH 610/IH 45 Direct Connector, SH 249/BW 8 Direct Connector, US 290 Managed Lane Bridges, etc... I have intermediate experience in Geopak (beginner in InRoads) and have worked on schematic design, signing and striping plans, and calculating quantities. I am more experienced in horizontal alignments, ramp design, profiles, and typical sections. Various roadway projects where I have completed different technical designs include US 290 Schematic Design, Grand Parkway Preliminary Schematic Design, Signing and Striping Plans for SH 249/BW 8 Direct Connector and El Paso I-10 Mainlanes. I have beginner-level experience with CTMS design and fiber relocation and had the chance to go out in the field to do CTMS equipment identification along Beltway 8/Hardy Toll Road.
President
I joined EWB-TAMU in 2009 and held multiple positions in 3 years. I went from general team member to project lead of the Costa Rica project team, and then finished as President. In the past, I was involved in the design and construction of a computer center with bathrooms in San Juan de Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica. I also led the team on as assessment trip for a water distribution project. I got direct experience, as a project lead, managing a team, communicating with technical advisors, and writing engineering reports. As president, I oversaw multiple initiatives within the organization, including projects and development. I developed a "sponsorship packet" and succeeded in raising over $30,000. I was also in charge of coordinating a Regional Workshop in fall 2011, hosted at Texas A&M, which served to train and connect about 80 students and professionals around the region. Our chapter earned a $10,000 grant from Boeing Company for the Costa Rica program and was awarded the 2011-2012 Texas A&M Student Organization of the Year.
Intern
I helped write and edit Dam Inundation Reports, assisted in development and production of multiple Toxic Release Inventory reports, formatted and printed several reports, analyzed lab data to input in Excel spreadsheets, and helped take different water samples in a pond.
Intern
I assisted in red-lining AutoCAD drawings of water and sewage systems, helped input survey data on AutoCAD, and trained and assisted with survey teams in the field.
