“I’m competitive, I love to learn, and I love to serve people,” states Kate Petterson. “Throughout my career in engineering and real estate, I have been able to forge relationships that are key to maintaining a healthy professional life while serving my community. I have learned a lot over the years in terms of education, learning new skills, perseverance, and overcoming challenges I never knew I would face.”Highly-organized and detail-oriented, Kate is a planner and an excellent networker. She knows how to pull people together to get the job done, a skill she first developed as a graduate civil engineer designing bridges, roadway planning, environmental planning, and roadway design. “That initial experience taught me to stay on top of things, to prioritize tasks, to use my time wisely, and to pursue projects that I was interested in. I also relate to a wide variety of people, which is very important given the nature of our wide variety of clients.”Kate’s community and professional commitments look a bit different now since making her way back to the Houston area after 5 years, but she’s hoping to get back into the swing of things fairly quickly. “Right when we got back, I told my husband, ‘I need to get involved. I want to be more active in our community. What does that look like now?’ So I called our new Pastor at our church and told him we wanted to start a Community Group of young parents. I’ve re-joined the Society of American Military Engineers. And I hope to become more involved in local policy matters.”Kate and her husband have 2 daughters and a son. They run a small family business on the weekends and enjoy spending time with their extended families whenever they can.
