I am a teacher, writer and a researcher. In my role as Associate Professor I support young engineers to develop a greater understanding of the impacts of technology on life, society and cultures so that they become responsive designers in the future. All my teaching is tied to the core values encompassed in sustainability.My first degree was in Zoology and that remains a passion, but over the years I shifted my focus to social science as I found out that conservation is as much about people as it is about ecology. My home discipline became Science and Technology Studies, and I have a long held interest in the ways in which science, technology and engineering impacts all life on earth. I research the ways in which scientific thought can shape narratives of popular fiction and how we use these kinds of stories to debate and reflect human dilemmas. I write about nature and culture. I have written about the ape society and am currently researching the cultural responses that come from and through the relationship between human and wolf. I value the world's wildest places and believe that people need them. I write in academic and popular domains - the language might differ, but the questions are the same.
