I worked with the community housing industry in Victoria to raise its profile and impact via strategic communications. I undertook a rebrand of the organisation due to a name change, which involved creating a new website, social media profiles and other marketing collateral. My brief included editing the peak body's magazine, writing the annual and other reports and creating information products for key stakeholder groups, such as local governments.

I assisted the Future Social Service Institute, now rebranded as the Workforce Development Institute to promote its aged care and disability courses, leadership training, and research. This involved interviewing past and current students and people with lived experience of care who had assisted with the co-design of courses. I identified and maximised opportunities to secure media coverage, updated the website, developed social media posts and crafted marketing collateral.

I assisted the Centre for Palliative Care in its transition to new branding, which involved creating new marketing collateral and overseeing a website redesign. I also worked closely with researchers to promote their findings and publicise webinars and other training events. I wrote video scripts and helped develop a microsite to increase uptake of palliative care training by health care staff.

Alice Springs, Darwin And Melbourne

I worked full-time for ABC Radio in Alice Springs for 2.5 years, producing and sometimes presenting news and current affairs programs. This involved sourcing stories and interviews, writing the introductions for the presenter, taking talkback calls, monitoring the program to contribute questions via the computer screen and ensuring no potentially litigious comments went to air. The rest of my time at the ABC was at 774 in Melbourne, where I worked as a producer for presenters including Ben Knight, Jon Faine, Virginia Trioli and Derek Guille. I also produced the Overnight Program with Trevor Chappell, which involves the additional responsibility of being a panel operator.

Based in Alice Springs, I handled media requests, including accompanying crews on visits to remote areas. I contributed to the internal magazine, and assisted with the running of Blue Light Discos in remote communities.

Beginning as a cub reporter, whilst completing my degree in journalism at RMIT, I had a part-time position at Leader Newspapers. It was a fabulous learning experience, working with legends like Murray Smith. After graduating, I secured a full-time position and was soon running my own paper, The Cranbourne Sun, with responsibility for 'junior' staff. Moving to Alice Springs to work on the Centralian Advocate was the beginning of a great adventure in learning about Aboriginal Australia.
