My teaching career has been geared toward alternative school students. This experience has allowed me to implement and evaluate various classroom management strategies. The most important strategy that I utilize is consistency. I ensure that each student is treated fairly and reasonably. I believe that my greatest strengths are my adaptability and creativity. On account of teaching a broad range of students varying from freshmen to seniors, I have adapted many lessons to allow for differentiation. I have found that this benefits both the advanced and basic learner. I believe that it is important for every student to feel challenged in their daily coursework, which is why I implement higher order thinking skills, abstract thinking, as well as divergent thinking in my classroom. In addition, I am a strong advocate of presenting students with real-life situations that correlate to curriculum. I find this helps promote mastery learning and fosters the student’s ability to think globally.
