Kate Stephens’ mission to bridge the gap between farmers and consumers started when she was 15 years old driving combine on her family’s century Montana wheat farm. Kate learned that not many people know where their food and fashion products come from or the families who produce them. After that realization Kate started a YouTube channel called Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion to help bridge the gap between farmers and consumers by educating people about how their food gets to their table and the origins of their fashion products. Kate’s YouTube channel has gained over 11 million views and 69,000 thousand subscribers in just over a year. At 17 years old Kate debuted her luxury handbag line that she has focused on for two years. The handbags are handmade by artisans New York. By incorporating agricultural elements into her designs, she hopes to connect people with farms and the origins of their fashion products. Awareness of what family farms do will enable others to learn about the sustainability, quality, and value of agriculture and why it is important to ask where fashion products are made. Kate has also made a conscious effort to give back to her community by donating her first handbag off the production line to Montana Farmers Union’s auction which sold for over $1,600 with funds being allocated towards youth agriculture programs. Two years later “Farm to Fashion” has taken Kate from the wheat fields of Montana to national farmers conventions where she has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, Modern Farmer Magazine, KRTV television station, Montana Ag Network and producers from both Netflix and HBO. She was also accepted to Cornell University for fall 2022 to study at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
