About Kate Sutherland
I'm a social entrepreneur and organizational development consultant with a passion for bridging mindsets, stakeholders, silos, and sectors to support innovation and greater positive impact. Digging deeper, I'm on a lifelong quest for ways to quicken peace and joy. This has included deep dives into alternative education, economics, community, and inner work, along with a geeky fascination for group dynamics — groups being a doorway to win-win-win breakthroughs in perception, thinking, and action. For over 35 years I've worked with think tanks, non-profits, private-sector organizations and governments at all levels, and on issues as diverse as energy policy, urban transportation, food security, social inclusion, community currencies, early childhood development, and livable cities. I am increasingly focused on helping leaders and change agents create non-linear change through inner work (i.e. intention, perception, intuition and consciousness), tapping the latent capacity of groups for collective intelligence, co-creation and flow. I'm also co-founding faculty and executive coach for Simon Fraser University’s Social Innovation Certificate, SFU’s Certificate in Evaluation for Social Impact and Transformational Learning, and THNK School of Creative Leadership. My third book, We Can Do This! makes accessible frameworks used by professional facilitators and consultants.

I am privileged to work as a consultant and facilitator in organization and community development. I’ve facilitated dozens of projects and hundreds of group and community processes since the early 70s, learning from each one and gaining ever greater appreciation for the power and potential in groups.Growing up, my four best friends were artists, and I see myself as part of an emerging global network of “people artists” – practitioners who work in the creative medium of meetings and initiatives -- designing, framing, and convening with purpose, passion and a commitment to truth. Like Inuit carvers seeking to liberate the sculpture hidden in a lump of soapstone, I support people to listen for “what wants to come through” in the contexts where I work. My goal is always to serve the highest, to invite making the most of the time and possibilities, and to leave a system more self-aware and resilient than when I arrived.

I'm thrilled to be a founding faculty member with THNK Vancouver, the first replication of THNK -- The Amsterdam School of Creative Leadership. THNK is a global program for the next generation of creative leaders. It brings together corporate intra-preneurs, social entrepreneurs and commercial entrepreneurs who have passion, an open mindset, and a commitment to having real impact on societal issues.
