Profile bio

About Kate Sutton

I am a researcher in the field of cellular biology and Immunology with vast experience in the academic environment and laboratory setting. My primary interest is to understand the fundamentals of the immune system in chickens using in vitro and in vivo approaches with emphasis on the mononuclear phagocytic system, such as DC and macrophages using novel transgenic chicken models at the Roslin Institute. More recently, I have been focusing on understanding the intestinal immune response to bacterial and viral infections using 3D & 2D enteroids systems, as well as characterizing chicken intestinal M cells through the supervision of a PhD student. I have developed novel Bovine 2D enteroids that can contribute to the discovery of feed compounds and additives without the need for large animal studies. During my PhD studies and postdoctoral work , I worked independently on numerous projects that have given me valuable experience in a number of areas of molecular biology and equipped me with transferable skills which can be used for future roles.
