As an assistant in several English classrooms, I engage with my students and facilitate conversations about American life and culture. I also engage with refugee populations in France, comparing the French and American approaches to immigration and integration.http://fulbright-france.org/en

Greater Seattle Area

I transported and accompanied refugee clients to important appointments. I helped newly arrived families with tasks such as paying bills and getting a state ID. I assisted with ESL classes. I practiced essential life skills with refugee families, including: shopping, using public transportation, balancing a checkbook, etc. I practiced English with refugees and help them adjust to American culture. I communicated consistently with Supervisor and Case Work staff about refugee needs and issues relating to their resettlement. I translated between French-speaking clients and English-speaking staff.

Indianapolis, Indiana Area

At this nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research think tank that serves to "research, analyze, and respond to difficult issues of a world in progress," I helped to develop portfolios for Indiana schools participating in the Scholarships for Education Choice voucher program. I also developed the portfolio of Sagamore's Liberia Initiative, seeking to develop a greater understanding of resources and relationships between central Indiana and Liberia in both the public and private sectors.
