About Kate Vasquez

I am a rising junior pursuing a B.A. in Neuroscience and Music at Middlebury College.I am also a Yale SURF Scholar/SR-EIP Research Fellow (through The Leadership Alliance) in the Kavli Institute for Neuroscience at the Yale Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Working under the guidance of Dr. Sreeganga Chandra, I am currently researching alpha-synuclein---a key player implicated Parkinson's Disease and other synucleinopathies---and its phosphorylation site at T81. I am learning advanced laboratory methods, writing proposals and progress reports, and working on a final manuscript, and I will be presenting my findings at the National Leadership Alliance Symposium in July 2024.I plan to pursue post-graduate education and obtain a PhD in neuroscience---I hope to do research in the field of cognitive neuroscience, specifically, learn about the relationship between music, creativity, and the brain.
