A marine biologist, I now work in cetacean conservation, specialising in public engagement, education and outreach.I have always been interested in anthropogenic impacts on the environment, which is what drew me to the Ocean Conservationist program at ORCA. As Ocean Conservationist Coordinator I manage a team of ~100 Ocean Conservationists (a mixture of casual and full time staff) who go on board cruise ships and ferries, collecting vital scientific data on the abundance and distribution of whales and dolphins. OC's also educate and inspire the public and industry, through lectures, workshops and additional training for bridge crews (e.g. on ship strike mitigation). I have worked with a number of conservation charities, to build up a good knowledge of how to interact with the public and industry. I believe that through working with people and educating the public, we can make real change.
