Set-up and lead a digital media innovation lab for Canada's largest newspaper through projects designed to advance the Star's longer-term business and journalism goals. In 2014, the lab's focus was around use of 'data'​: acquisition and use of open/public data by the newsroom; audience-created data; data visualization; assembling scaleable platforms for journalists to incorporate data and maps in story-telling; building partnerships with civic tech start-ups and NFP with civic data around social justice. The lab generated useful and difficult insights, and one of its products, the Toronto City Council 'Policards' (performance tracking for sitting politicians) won an industry award (Gold at COPA).
