As a self-employed consultant, I worked for Talk Straight on a retained basis for two-three days a week. The growth of the company created a need for the position to be moved in-house on a full time basis. Reporting directly to the board, I had full responsibility for setting up the Communications and CSR function for JN Bentley and its joint venture business, Mott MacDonald Bentley. Roles of more than three months included Purchase Ledger Clerk at the head office of Magnet Plc (making sure all supplier orders were correctly logged on the system) and working as part of the mortgage on-boarding and arrears communications team at Skipton Building Society. This role involved calling customers who had fallen behind with repayments to make alternative repayment plans or arrange specialist interventions and became my first experience of sensitive customer communications planning and delivery.

Then Inland Revenue. My main role was to make sure the Accounts Head Office constantly had all official stationery in stock at sufficient levels. I liaised with suppliers, placed orders as needed, checked print proofs (e.g. official letterheads and envelopes) and maintained accurate stock records. I also ensured all departmental requisition paperwork to call off stock and allocate budget was completed accurately.
