I currently focus on cognition, sex, gender and sexuality and how these might be incorporated into cognitive systems such as sexual companion robots.In 2017 I was selected as one of the Humans of the Year by Motherboard, Vice Media’s Technology channel, and was named as one of London’s Most Influential People 2017 by the Evening Standard’s Progress1000 list.In 2016 I was Co-Chair of the Second International Congress on Love and Sex with Robots and I founded the UK’s first sex tech hackathon. My book, “Turned On: The Science of the Sex Robot”, will be published by Bloomsbury in 2018. -

In 2005 I was responsible for coordination of the Phase 1 pilot project of Archive Archaeology, part of the HECFE FDTL5 funded Access Archaeology project. In 2004 I carried out the digital archiving of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s papers, part of the University’s Special Collection. This was an AHRB-funded pilot project to catalogue and digitally preserve the Brunel Collection for online delivery. I also delivered postgraduate and undergraduate teaching. -
