As part of the Local and Community Engagement team, I work with young people to foster an enabling environment for a just transition to a low carbon world. This includes everything from town planning workshops for primary schools, action campaigns for youth clubs, training youth workers and managing the Bright Green Future youth leadership programme. I support energy advice organisations across the UK to build their capacity and provide advice to hard-to-reach clients. I administer grant schemes and facilitate training for energy advisors on low carbon technology and smart technology.I foster community support for home retrofit and renewable energy infrastructure, by running training sessions, facilitating community engagement workshops, organising green open home events and making resources for community groups. All of my work is underlined by the principle that communities must be at the heart of a fair energy system.

Bright Green Future is an environmental leadership and empowerment programme run by the Centre for Sustainable Energy for 16-19 year olds across the UK.A highlight has been creating paid opportunities to build green skills for young people through instituting a Youth Advisory Board and alumni event coordinator role.

I investigated patterns and themes in the suicide deaths of Defence members and veterans as part of a government inquiry by the National Commissioner for Defence and Veteran Suicides. I analysed coroners’ reports, police reports and autopsies and worked in a team to produce three government reports which were significant for families of veterans and contributed to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicides. We used a qualitative coding framework, incorporating feedback from expert advisors and family advocates and reflexivity from my team. Additionally, I worked on my personal resilience and sustainable working habits.I also assisted project administration tasks.

I responded to student enquiries via service desk, phone and email. I triaged students for academic, financial and wellbeing support.

I designed and facilitated social & cultural events for 200+ international and domestic students in halls. My events fostered social cohesion and cross-cultural learning. For example, food festivals, cultural holidays, awareness days, panels and debates. Additionally, I mentored students and was responded to student administrative, safety, first-aid, mental health or academic concerns in halls.

I took a gap year to work full time before university. I gained skills in office systems and professionalism working in the small local office. During the transitional time when the company was made redundant, I took on extra IT support roles. This was a formative employment experience for me.
