After my internship, I was hired as a full-time R&D Applications Technician. My primary responsibilities involved performing the chemical and physical laboratory tests for a thorough evaluation of how the K-Flex plasticizer products functioned in a variety of coatings, plastisols, adhesives, and sealants products. With previous experience, I was assigned larger, more complex projects to further develop my laboratory, analytical, and critical thinking skills.► Key Achievement: Managed a melt compounding study centered on how dibenzoate and industry-standard phthalate plasticizers affect the processing characteristics of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Authored and submitted a technical paper and presentation for the ANTEC technical conference that resulted in winning two technical awards.Contributions: ▪ Assessed K-Flex plasticizer product line through rheology, thermal analysis, volatile organic content (VOC), hardness, compatibility, and tensile strength analysis. ▪ Coordinated all sample requests from customers, as well as those initiated from the Sales and Marketing team.▪ Trained new employees in operating lab equipment through standard operating procedures (SOP) and experimental methods.▪ Wrote SOPs for laboratory equipment and testing procedures to ensure proper documentation of how to safely perform laboratory work was available and that OSHA guidelines were met.▪ Analyzed, interpreted, and compiled status report on project data; circulated data and observations to chemists for use in company presentations.▪ Attended, participated, and presented safety topics in monthly meetings.
