I am a recent graduate from the University of Iowa where I studied Health and Human Physiology with a focus on Health Promotion, on the Pre-Occupational Therapy track, with a minor in Psychology and Spanish. I am passionate about what I have learned about in my classes, and look forward to one day putting my healthcare knowledge into practice in a pediatric occupational therapy setting. I graduated in December of 2020 and hope to attend graduate school in the Fall of 2022 to obtain a Masters or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy. Through my undergraduate studies I have gained experience identifying health needs in different communities, researching and planning health interventions, and hands-on experience working as a health coach in training with real clients. I have developed strong interpersonal and communication skills through my experience as a health coach, a recruitment counselor, and Human Resources Director for my sorority. I have a strong desire to help people, and feel that my calling is in pediatrics. I have had many opportunities to surround myself with kids over the years working as a nanny and directing a summer camp for six years. I hope to one day serve this younger population in a professional setting to help them develop the skills needed to grow into functional, independent individuals through creative therapy and play.Occupational therapy appeals to me because I have always been a creative person. I enjoy working with my hands, and creative problem-solving, and this field offers the opportunity to do just that. I am a people person, so I am also drawn to this field for the ability to form strong and personal connections with my clients as a treat them. For all this job offers and requires, I feel I bring equal skills to the table to be a successful OT.In the meantime, I am looking for any opportunities to gain more experience with occupational therapy and similar fields. Through shadowing, volunteering, and/or jobs in healthcare, I hope to further develop my skills as a future OT and prepare myself for my future career.
