Kate Gaudry is a partner at Mughal Gaudry & Franklin PC. She focuses her practice on strategic prosecution of patents, particularly in the software, applied math, and computational biology field. Kate is one of a small minority of patent prosecutors that tailors prosecution recommendations based on empirical data of clients' portfolios and objective evaluations of various prosecution strategies. This work led her to be one of five attorneys across all fields to receive LexMachina's and Law360's Data-Driven Lawyer award in the award's inaugural year (2018). She has published dozens of articles, in legal and scientific journals, on the statistical results of various prosecution strategies and patent-office programs. Her routine portfolio-specific and more general statistical analyses enable her to quickly and efficiently identify prosecution approaches that will most effectively achieve a client's objectives.Further, Kate is dedicated to contributing to constructively evaluating the patent office. For example, her research projects have highlighted which new programs effectively promote compact prosecution. Further, she led the investigation into the Sensitive Application Warning System (SAWS). Shortly after she published indications of the program's vague inclusion criteria and impact (e.g., patent delay), the program was shut down. Kate is devoted to ensuring that applicants are provided with a fair and efficient patent system.
