Kate Hoppe earned a Master of Public Health from the Kansas University Medical Center with a concentration in social and behavioral health. She has worked as a public health professional for more than ten years and served two years on the mayoral-appointed Kansas City Board of Health Commissioners.As a health commissioner, she established and chaired the Community Health Improvement Planning Committee. She advocated for reframing the traditional CHIP from a focus on downstream health issues (e.g. heart disease) to engagement of community institutions to change policies and practices in support of health and health equity.Over her career, she has contributed to or led numerous research studies and evaluations, including NIH- and institutionally-funded implementation science, Alzheimer’s prevention, diabetes education and tobacco cessation research, and foundation-funded childhood obesity and physical activity community interventions. Ms. Hoppe has experience using Health Impact Assessment as a methodological tool for assessing proposed policies or programs, and Geographic Information Systems for spatially analyzing population characteristics in relation to social determinants and health outcomes.In addition, she led a state-level, CDC-funded public health program in physical activity, nutrition, and worksite wellness and a management team for the multi-million dollar 1422 CDC grant at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. In these roles she worked with county organizations to guide public health strategies, provide subject matter expertise through technical assistance opportunities, develop state team operations, and ensure submission of progress reports and continuing grant applications. Ms. Hoppe was trained as a quality improvement coach and, as of 2020, is a PHAB Site Visitor for public health accreditation.Ms. Hoppe is currently the owner of CivicPoint Consulting, a management consulting firm she founded to help organizations move to action for healthy, equitable, and resilient communities. As a consultant, she provides expertise in public health, strategy, innovation, and partnership development to a variety of clients.
