I teach 8th grade science.

I planed, prepared and delivered appropriate lessons across all subjects to students grades 6 - 12. Additionally, I create and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes good citizenship.I collaborate with colleagues in order to meet students‘ individual needs. Seeking professional development both in and out of the classroom is an important component of my position.

I taught computer programming (Java based) to students ages 9 -12 using Alice 3.1 and Greenfoot software, directing students in creating their own personal projects. I also taught adventures in architecture and structural design. I collaborated with teaching assistants to support students’ instructional needs.

I delivered environmental education presentations, assessing impact on changes in student behavior through surveys and teacher evaluations. I also helped oversee and support large scale volunteer events such as Coastal Cleanup Day, which attracted over 7,000 volunteers.

As a student teacher, I taught all aspects of 9th/10th grade biology course, incorporating instructional strategies designed for English learners (SDAIE). I also implemented an after-school intervention plan for at-risk 10th grade students. Additionally, I participated in a restorative practices discipline model.

As a classroom assistant, I facilitated weekly workshops for small groups of 9th and 10th graders in CAHSEE math as well as Earth Science. I also tutored 6th- 12th grade students across all subject areas, especially in science classes.

During my AmeriCorps term, I developed environmental science curriculum for middle school youth. Also, I oversaw youth-led service projects, including wetland restoration and gardening.In addition, I supervised middle and high school youth in a summer service learning program.

During the summer, I completed a research project on soil microbiology in the Environmental Sciences Division, and I presented the results to scientists during lab meetings and in a laboratory-wide poster presentation.I also participated in a teaching seminar called Integrating Research Methods into K-12 Teaching in Mathematics and Science through CalTEACH at UC Berkeley. During this course I developed a digital portfolio which consists of a research proposal, 5-E lesson plans, and teacher inquiry.

I assisted the lead teacher with hands-on science activities in low income middle schools throughout San Diego. I also led field trips, including one to the Birch Aquarium.
