A scribe allows their physician to pay their full attention to the patient, with the confidence that the chart and documentation for the visit are taken care of. As a scribe in the Urology department at Massachusetts General Hospital, I assist three physicians throughout the week with seeing new consults, follow-ups, and even through some procedure visits. I am responsible for including all relevant details of the visit in the chart, including a detailed history, medical decision-making, plan for further treatment and follow-up, and any pertinent lab or imaging results. I also assist my physicians by sending communications, putting follow-up requests into the system, and otherwise reducing their time staring at an electronic medical record.

As a Claims Adjuster, I spoke to people every day having one of the most confusing and negative experiences of their lives and tried to make that experience a little easier and friendlier. I served as a teacher to my policy holders, guiding them through the complicated web that is auto insurance law so that they felt empowered in their understanding of the claims process. In the Telephone Adjuster 1 department, I handled slightly more complicated claims, such as those involving rental cars, policy expiration or nonpayment, and conflicting accounts of the details of a collision. I learned how to investigate claims, utilizing limited-access resources such as Accurint and ISO Claim Search to follow leads and gain information so I could render the most accurate decision about negligence. I also performed Recorded Interviews, managed mail, issued payments, took phone calls, wrote letters, and made sure to follow all Florida insurance law and GEICO standards to the letter.

I was privileged to serve as a Resident Assistant my junior and senior years at St. John's College. In this role, I provided 24/7 guidance and resources to the students all over campus. I patrolled parties, reported back to the assistant dean about student opinions, and stood as a campus leader embodying integrity, responsibility, and compassion. Gould Farm is a revolutionary approach to long-term mental health solutions. It is a residential treatment facility for adults with major mental illness and impairment, as well as a fully functioning farm. While living at the farm, patients, who are called guests, have access to 24/7 assistance and psychiatric/medical care. They also participate in a group work program, taking care of animals, cleaning, cooking, making maple syrup, and many other activities which allow them to develop skills and reclaim their independence. As a summer intern, I lived on the farm and supervised and worked alongside guests in two departments. In the Buildings and Grounds department, I helped with the completion of tasks such as sweeping, chopping wood, gardening, and recycling, while supervising, teaching, and being taught by the guests. I also worked at Roadside, Gould Farm's restaurant which serves delicious home-grown food to the Monterey area and allows guests nearing the completion of their stay to re-integrate into independent life. I was also responsible for observing guests and reporting back to their assigned clinicians about their progress, struggles, and triumphs during the work program.
