About Katelyn Combs
I have a passion for making art accessible and meaningful to people of all ages and backgrounds by building connections with their personal experiences and ideas. I would impart, most importantly and most simply, that art is not just about painting pretty pictures, but about recording and responding to the world around us and our experiences within it. The fields of art education and museum education have allowed me to work hands-on with those viewers and young artists whose own personal experiences make an artwork meaningful and powerful, and I hope to continue helping to facilitate these connections in the future.

Education Specialist-Artmobile
Museum Education Intern
As the Museum Education Intern, I designed, researched, wrote, and implemented various educational programs and events. I also researched, wrote, and designed 2 Family Guides, which are available to families at the museum and on the museum website. As the Educator at the museum, I facilitated art-making activities and discussions, conducted tours, and greeted museum guests. Working for the City and its Parks and Recreation Department was an invaluable experience, as I was afforded a wealth of different opportunities and experiences. I planned, wrote, and taught a toddler art class in October 2014 for the city, and was on the planning committee for the Children's Activities area at the city's annual festival in November. Additionally, I managed the scheduling of and correspondence with museum volunteers.
Teacher Assistant
Education Intern
During my summer as the Kimbell's Education Intern, I researched the “Wari: Lords of the Ancient Andes” exhibition, iconography, and themes. As support to the Education Team, I assisted in the development, research, and testing of numerous festival, workshop, and classroom activity ideas, time constraints, and various supplies and materials for those studio art projects. I had hands-on fun and art-making experience creating sample prototypes and instructions for other interns and docents to use in teaching those projects. I provided assistance and support to the teachers leading gallery discussions, assisted with art-making activities, and helped guide students through structured lesson plans. I was able to work closely with the many children, families, teachers, education staff, gallery attendants, and volunteers during the Kimbell Summer Camp, Family Festivals, and various workshops.
Registration Intern
I worked as the Promotional Photographer in 2012, photographing the dozens of art classes for promotional materials. I managed these photographs and their corresponding Photography Release Permission Records in the Art School's database. My photographic process involved interacting closely and building strong rapports with the students of all ages so as to provide excellent, candid photographs for the Art School catalogues and website. During my internship in 2011, I managed the large volunteer database and coordinated all 150+ Art School volunteers through contacting, scheduling, meeting, and monitoring. Finally, I provided general office administrative support to the Art School Registrar – phones, data entry, filing, etc.
Student Assistant
As a Student Assistant, I aided multiple professors and staff in conducting research, test grading, preparation of online course shells, and record-keeping. Additionally, I provided general office administrative support – phones, data entry, filing, copies, etc.
