Currently at the Roaring Brook Nature Center I work primarily as a Naturalist and Wildlife Care Manager. As a Naturalist I am responsible for teaching elementary to high school age students about the natural world through outreach programs, field trips, afterschool programs and public programming. In addition to being a Naturalist I am also the Nature Center's Wildlife Care Manager caring for our resident animals that include 11 permanently injured birds of prey, several mammals and over 40 reptiles and amphibians. The Nature Center is a federal and state permitted wildlife rehabilitation facility that accepts almost 200 orphaned and injured animals each year. I am in charge of diagnosing and caring for these wild animals and have established relationships with over 6 local veterinarians to assist in giving these animals quality care in attempts to be able to release them back into the wild. Through growing volunteer programs in the raptor volunteer program, wildlife rehabilitation internships and animal care volunteer program I have coordinated and supervised over 2,000 hours of volunteer work in the past year.Part of my job also consists of advertising programs and event, developing and implementing new classes and programs and organizing fundraising events.
