Developed a two step process to greatly improve false positives and prediction time by limiting the amount of text exposed to a named-entity recognition (NER) model.Prepared billions of training samples in Spark; created functions to convert data from XML and JSON formats into labeled dataframes. Later rebuilt the model using spark-nlp in just a few weeks, realizing additional savings by further improving model accuracy and allowing the model to be run on CPU machines instead of GPU.Enhanced researcher insights into article impact by classifying citations using an XGBoost model. Engineered language similarity features to compensate for sparse training data.

Built a model to predict the length of time a bike in a dockless bike share system will be left idle before it is rented again. Able to identify broken or hidden bikes to recover an average of 6 hours of usability per bike. Passively collected over three weeks of real-time bike share data using an AWS EC2 server as the dataset for this project.Worked in small teams to model and interpret real-world data, including:* auction prices (using linear regression), * customer churn (using gradient boosting and a cost matrix), * movie recommendations (using matrix factorization), and * fraud detection (using an ensemble model incorporating natural language processing and boosting).Projects also included exploratory data analysis, data cleaning, and feature engineering.
