I have earned a reputation as a trailblazer, someone who has put her constituents and Arizona ahead of party politics. I have served my community for over two decades - first as a school board member, and then in the Arizona State Legislature. During that time, I won numerous awards for my legislative work. Most recently, I was awarded Best Elected Official in the State of Arizona for an unprecedented two years running in 2019 and 2020. I am in good company! Previous recipients of this distinguished award include Governor Doug Ducey, U.S. Senator John McCain and U.S. Senator Jon Kyl, and others. In December 2022 I began serving the residents of Maricopa County District 3 as one of five Directors of Valleywise Health - the Maricopa County Hospital and clinic system.As a leader, I put my protective instincts and diplomatic reasoning to work for all Arizonans. I have been a tireless advocate for Arizona’s students and for our most vulnerable citizens and I have led the charge on key health and human services policy initiatives. I enacted massive and needed reforms to child welfare, turning Arizona’s child welfare system from a national disgrace to a national model. Most recently, I passed landmark legislation establishing parity for treatment of behavioral health disorders – ensuring that mental illness will be treated just as physical illness is treated, along with many other critical reforms.As a candidate for Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, I intend to put my experience and expertise to work for the people of Arizona, on behalf of the citizens of Maricopa County. I understand that lasting reforms require absolute transparency. I have an established track record as the leader most capable of tackling tough issues, solving problems and getting results.
