“Leaders are those who empower others.” -Bill GatesSince the arrival of my younger sister just after I turned four years old, I have viewed myself as a guide and protector of others. I naturally fell into roles over the subsequent years that have provided me with opportunity to hone and practice skills that align wholly with my future goals. By regularly volunteering with School on Wheels, I developed a deep value for opportunities to connect with youth and serve in mentorship roles. As a leader on my high school lacrosse team, I utilized compassion and optimism to boost overall cooperation and success. Working as a summer camp counselor prior to coming to college gave me several opportunities to enhance my adaptability and quick-thinking skills. Currently, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education along with a minor in Gender Studies. I currently work as a teacher assistant in the Bloomington community and participate in weekly service-learning opportunities, but I still seek the chance to build more hands-on experiences into my education. In the future, I strive to translate my passion for mentorship and development into a successful career as an educator.
