Kate worked at Bell Gully from 2000 until 2003 and rejoined in 2006 after working in London in-house as Senior Legal Advisor for Cory Environmental Management Limited, one of the United Kingdom’s largest waste management companies. Kate was also previously been seconded to PHARMAC for a period of six months as its sole legal counsel.Kate was a Senior Associate at Bell Gully, where she specialises in commercial, procurement and carbon law to private and public sector entities, across a wide range of industries. She was also responsible for Bell Gully’s trade mark and associated intellectual property practice out of its Wellington Office.Kate is a hard-working, determined and intelligent lawyer who enjoys learning and understanding a client’s business in order to be able to provide meaningful and valued advice. Her ability to absorb and understand complex regulatory environments is evidenced by her being named in Chambers Global (an international directory of leading international lawyers) as only one of three “associates to watch” in the field of international climate change law from 2009 to 2014. Providing corporate and commercial in-house legal advice, including:- Reviewing, providing advice on, negotiating and drafting amendments to public tender procurements worth approx. GBP 1-3 million. per annum for a period of 10-25 years, and providing advice on EU procurement regulations.- Advising on the allocation of liability in relation to environmental risks, and the valuation of environmental benefits in relation to the development of environmental assets, such as the development of a 585,000 tonne per year, 72MW Energy from Waste (EfW) facility.- Managing, as in house counsel, the legal aspects of the sale of a subsidiary and parts of the legal aspects of the sale of the Cory Group (as a partial management buy-out) to a private equity group.- Managing, as in house counsel, the purchase of five businesses (some being a share purchase and some an asset purchase).- Advising on and managing the ongoing legal aspects of the various revolving credit arrangements.- Advising on and drafting agreements relating to the generation and sale of electricity and the associated the private trading of renewable obligations certificates (ROCs), including the allocation of risks and benefits arising, from landfill gas.- Advising on and drafting bonds and guarantees, particularly in relation to liability arising from contamination arising from landfill sites.- The project management of mergers and acquisitions, bonding and facility agreements, and advising on environmental and planning issues, and the day-to-day legal matters affecting the business.
