We trapped the squirrels to weigh them, assess their physical and reproductive condition, and humanely take tissue samples for genetic analysis. Solo lab work included DNA extraction, primer design, and PCR amplification of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA to examine population genetics. A manuscript is in preparation.
