I recently coordinated a large multi-year study to delineate PFAS in groundwater and source zone soil with a view to protect potential receptors, and confirm surface water/groundwater mass flux. The data generated aided the development and screening of potential corrective action technologies and updated the Conceptual Site Model to include observations on PFAS distribution laterally and vertically. Importantly, the investigation also identified significant upstream sources. PFAS is a ‘new frontier’ with differences in understanding of the nature and extent of PFAS compared with other types of impacts. Our investigation led the way in the industry.I design, manage, and implement complex site investigations and remedial actions using a collaborative approach with all stakeholders and a tiered, risk-based approach to corrective action solutions. Promote the use of LNAPL transmissivity and LNAPL concentrations as assessment tools and as recovery metrics, as opposed to recovery volume or time. I participated in the development of the Interstate Technology Research Council “LNAPL-3” publication, an important guidance document for LNAPL work.
