I am a geologist with a broad-based background that includes field geology, sedimentology, structural geology, petrography, and tectonics as well as groundwater. My current focus is largely on Geoscience Education (development and implementation of teaching materials, work with in-service teachers), together with research on Paleozoic rocks of NW Nelson, New Zealand - and on my boulder/concrete-mixer experiment. I am passionate about DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) work, and recently presented on the work I did adapting courses for vision-impaired students. I also have research interests in conglomerates - their depositional environments and provenance. Recently I have spent time investigating how the arts can be intentionally incorporated in the teaching of geology, and how that helps engage students in science.

In May 2021 I wrapped up my career as the Geologist in the Atmospheric and Hydrologic Sciences Department. I taught General Education Geoscience courses, as well as Introductory Geology, Field Geology, Surficial and Glacial Geology, Historical Geology, Rocks & Minerals, Sedimentology & Stratigraphy, and Structural Geology.I advised students in the newly-developed Environmental Geology Concentration.I continue to be involved in a variety of Geoscience Education Projects (TIMES, ANDRILL ARISE), as well as continuing my research on Paleozoic rocks of NW Nelson and Mesozoic rocks of the Caples Group in New Zealand. I recently completed my cement mixer experiment on the rate at which igneous cobbles are reduced in mass during stream transport.
