About Kate Terhune
Lover of consumer psychology and behavioral science who happens to have spent the last 16 years sitting in (mostly) marketing roles across retail, restaurants, marketplaces and now tech—from startups like Placer.ai and Roots Natural Kitchen to giants like Nordstrom, Chewy, and Carter's & OshKosh. I led omnichannel marketing strategy and loyalty programs before pivoting into the multifamily marketing space to build and launch an award-winning brand, and now I consult with major retailers as a location intelligence expert.

Sr. Customer Success Manager, Strategic Accounts
CurrentAt Placer.ai, I consult with retail executives who have discovered the secret that is location intelligence. My job is to leverage my brand-side experience to interpret Placer’s powerful offline visitation data and recommend actionable strategies to achieve business objectives and growth, in turn influencing marketing planning, real estate prospecting, assortment strategy, competitive intelligence and more.
Abstract Artist
CurrentMinted Editor's Choice winner
Director, Brand Marketing
I was brought on board to build and grow the brand team and relaunch the organization's legacy brand (RentPath) as "Rent." We not only did that, but we earned several industry and marketing awards for our consumer creative, B2B marketing campaigns and experiential activations along the way. It was a dream job with the best team, but the fun was cut short when our parent company (Redfin) consolidated teams across our orgs and handed the reins to their own brand leader in their Seattle office. I took that as a sign that it was time for me to go explore different opportunities, though I remain close with the entire Rent. team and all of the incredible multifamily friends I met along the way.
Sr. Brand Manager
What a wild ride Chewy was! I moved my entire family to South Florida for the experience (in the height of the most expensive housing market in Florida history) and bounced right back up to Atlanta when the leader who hired me at Chewy brought me along to build her brand team at RentPath. Although brief, my time at Chewy was an incredibly valuable experience. I learned to right a killer whitepaper, relaunched the company's largest private label brand, defined the brand strategy for their first ever private label consumable and supplements lines, and played with lots of puppies!
Sr. Marketing Manager
Roots is a seriously delicious restaurant chain based in Charlottesville, VA with big growth ambitions. As marketing FTE #1, I built the Roots marketing playbook (during the first 12 months of COVID), standing up an omnichannel marketing strategy that enabled third-party delivery growth and supported demand during the pandemic while strengthening our brand positioning through delightful branding and guest programs. I "guided" (in quotes because it's pretty easy to do with a rock star design agency -- kudos Bantam) the design and development of our first ever seasonal bowls program and all go to market materials for new store openings. Most importantly, I learned a lot from the wicked smart and down to earth c-suite crew (more shout outs to Alberto, Henry and Peter)! I will always cherish my time at Roots and can't wait to see them expand to my area.
Sr. Manager, Customer Acquisition & Retention
As head of lifecycle marketing across our portfolio of brands, my role at Carter's was to implement new, omnichannel marketing programs while driving customer retention initiatives forward. As the single-threaded owner of the Rewarding Moments loyalty program, I shepherded consistent program branding and lifecycle-driven marketing activations throughout the organization, managed program financials, and ultimately remodeled the program's value proposition to design a complementary credit card offering.I led cross-functional workstreams across Carter’s ecosystem to launch the company’s first private label credit card and launched net new traffic-driving promotions that drove +$20M in incremental revenue. I also stood up the company's first ecommerce mobile app and SMS marketing programs.
Manager, Brand Programs, Women'S Segment
MANAGER, BRAND PROGRAMS, Women's Segment:My team and I stewarded end-to-end consumer marketing strategy through data-first brand management, garnering alignment among executive leadership, cross-functional execution teams, agency partners, and vendor partners to drive both product demand and brand affinity for Nordstrom's largest customer segment. MARKETING STRATEGY MANAGER, Nordstrom Product Group:Having a seat at the table alongside the Private Label leadership team, my role was to champion Nordstrom's exclusive product offer via a go-big marketing strategy tailored toward younger customers, inclusive of national editorial sponsorships and cohesive multichannel marketing campaigns. MARKETING STRATEGY MANAGER, Women's Specialized and Accessories Division:My first role at Nordstrom entailed leading marketing strategy, campaign development, budget forecasting, and vendor relations for the Women's Specialized and Accessories departments, building data-driven and customer-focused marketing campaigns that drove engagement, sales increases, and brand awareness for Nordstrom and its key vendors.

INTERIM HEAD OF MARKETING - September 2012 - June 2013Following an acquisition of the brand, I sat on the core leadership team during a 7-month interim role, ensuring brand integrity, customer focus, and organizational culture remained intact during a period of transition under the new ownership.
