I’m skilled at making complex things simple, charting a way forward, connecting people, ideas and activities, and getting things done. And I'm big on plain English (the language everyone understands!)I love helping organisations (big and small) work more sustainably, manage change, build relationships, brand and reputation. I also love helping people and communities gain skills, knowledge and access to opportunities. My experience includes eight years in sustainability (environmental and social) and 20+ in communications/reporting, stakeholder engagement, training, marketing, project management, change management and consulting. In that time, I’ve helped many listed companies, private businesses, government agencies, NFPs and start-ups design strategic, practical solutions and enlist support from their decision-makers, employees, suppliers, communities and customers to act on them.I've worked on award-winning projects in many industries including sustainability, consulting, aviation, infrastructure, utilities, education, tourism, transport, financial services, manufacturing and retail, so I'm versatile and get to grips with new activities quickly. Completed much of GoodSense's B Corp application; taught community education (ESOL, CV writing, plain English), helped private clients produce career documents to weather the storm that was COVID-19. THL's the first organisation in New Zealand to implement the global Future-Fit methodology to assess, manage and report on our social, environmental and economic impacts over 23 goals linked to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. My role involved engaging our internal and external stakeholders (including our THL crew, customers, suppliers, media and the tourism industry) in this work through communications, training, events and activities. I developed and rolled out KiwiRail's community engagement strategy, expanding the employee ambassador programme, launching new community partnerships, national and regional campaigns, supporting major projects, managing issues and running community events. The highlight?     This was a great job! I developed and delivered the airport's award-winning community relations strategy to connect the airport and south Auckland community. The airport's capital programme provides a unique opportunity to create 'shared value' – to help build a skilled, local workforce and connect local people with jobs across the airport precinct. I helped set up Ara, Auckland Airport's Jobs and Skills Hub, and ran a community programme themed around education, employment and the environment: five education sponsorships (including Polyfest), ten annual scholarships, community events and 50 grants. I was also a trustee of the Auckland Airport Community Trust, supported environmental sustainability activities, wrote the annual sustainability report and managed sustainability communications.As the airport's internal communications lead I launched a successful new intranet and monthly executive briefings and led diversity and inclusion activities. I also managed media issues and pitched stories.
