Research with Professor Brad Carter, studying the effects of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) linked to increased prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) on neurodevelopment in zebrafish.This project utilizes standard video-recording equipment and open-source MATLAB applications to track and quantify larval zebrafish movement in multi-well plates. Current work using this assay focuses on investigating the effects of the VOC dichloromethane (DCM) on larval zebrafish movement as a means to elucidate functional changes in neurodevelopment.

Working under Dr. Gregory Holmes and Dr. Jeremy Barry in the Epilepsy, Cognition, and Development (ECD) group at UVM's Department of Neurological Sciences. Primary work includes a histological investigation of neuronal subtypes transfected with an AAV viral vector used in optogenetics and electrophysiological studies in the Holmes lab of the septal-hippocampal network and its role in learning and memory.
