HI, I'm Kat, a creative marketer with a passion for values-driven business and art that makes the world better. My career has not been a straight line, but that’s worked to my benefit. In fact, you can read about it in the updated edition of What Color is Your Parachute (No, really, there are two whole pages covering my career path! How wild is that?). My first job out of college in Sales at a hot tech startup delivered a revelation: I really belonged in Marketing. Honoring this, I used my Journalism degree to work and network my way up in PR and marketing with Bay Area publishing houses, and in my seven years of book marketing, I led headline-grabbing bestseller publicity campaigns for hundreds of books, launched a digital community with a podcast and webinar series, sat as Board President for the Book Promotion Forum, and spoke at countless industry conferences and panels across the country. But when a dream job at a fashion ecommerce startup came calling, I took the chance to grow in a new direction – and never looked back.Visionary Branding & Creative StrategySince shifting gears into cutting-edge digital marketing, I’ve provided brand direction and product and content strategy for dozens of businesses, from long-established Fortune 500 corporations to fledgling startups. My favorite project from this time, Bright Path Strong, not only exceeded growth and engagement goals — it led to a literal history-changing achievement: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/15/sports/olympics/jim-thorpe-olympics-medal-restored.htmlImpact-Driven Creative ProducerAs a passion project, I also moonlight as an ethical and sustainable fashion stylist, working on ads for brands like Google Pixel and Adidas, styling red carpet and TV appearances for celebrities, and creative directing shoots. This has helped launch me into more above-the-line work as a freelance creative producer for branded social content in the tech, non-profit, food/beverage, and health/wellness spaces. I also guest-lecture on Marketing at UCLA Extension and UC Riverside.I get most excited about brands making a difference, and in my positions as Head of Marketing at TRACE and Marketing Manager for Give Us The Floor, I’ve had the good fortune of working with teams who share that value. I believe that innovation thrives in a company culture that celebrates diversity and the unique perspectives and talents of each individual, and I’m deeply committed to pushing that vision forward. If you share these values and have an idea or project that could use my support, I’d love to connect!
