About Katey Wattam

As the Director of Indigenous Perspectives at the National Theatre School of Canada, I am dedicated to fostering an environment that centers Indigenous equity and inclusion. My role is deeply connected with the Indigenous Advisory Circle, driving a cultural shift to embrace and integrate First Nation, Métis, and Inuit perspectives within our school. Through these efforts, we aim to support Indigenous students and staff, strengthen reconciliation, enrich the school's relational health, and teach the next generation of theatre artists to be ethical, value-driven, and culturally humble. My educational background, including a Master of Social Work specializing in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency from the University of Toronto, informs my approach to creating supportive spaces for growth and transformation. I bring extensive experience in social work, arts, and theatre, leveraging a unique blend of therapeutic modalities, artistic vision, and a commitment to decolonizing and Indigenizing practices. My passion for empowering Indigenous communities has led me to work on projects that promote self-determination, health, and wholistic well-being. Whether through theatre direction, social work, or collaborative research, I strive to support and uplift the individuals and communities I journey with. With a focus on trauma-informed, wholistic, body and arts-based approaches, I am committed to making a generative impact and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all.
