I am currently working in Head and Neck as a Unit Co-ordinator, with particular responsibility to cover the OMF service. I ensure efficient and effective management of the administration services within the Head & Neck department, providing leadership and support to the Admin & Clerical Teams. I support the General Manager to deliver Trust objectives including Referral To Treatment (RTT), Cancer Waiting Times, as well as ensuring appropriate Theatre and Clinic Utilisation. I ensure that there are clear systems and procedures in place to meet local and national waiting time standards. I assist with the organisational management of medical leave, timetables and rotas as well as working on modernisation initiatives to achieve continuous service delivery improvement.

I worked as a Failsafe Officer within Ophthalmology. This was a new post to the admin team and I was responsible for the provision of a safe and effective Ophthalmology failsafe service and provided a comprehensive, efficient and effective service to the department. I worked as part of a Multi-disciplinary team and provided expertise in the proactive management of patient pathway from referral to discharge, ensuring the entire pathway is managed smoothly. I ensured high levels of patient and clinician satisfaction by being an accessible, customer focused and knowledgeable point of contact. I help to provide a consistent approach across the Trust, using standard operating procedures to ensure that my role is carried out within given time scales. I support Directorate staff by having an appreciation of the importance of data quality and an understanding of what constitutes an “at risk” patient.I also was our Medical Secretary Supervisor and to further support me in a line management position, I undertook a Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship receiving a Distinction. This involved completing work on a number of modules which include Awareness of Self, Management of Self, Managing People, Leading People, Operational Management, Project Management, Finance, Communication, Decision Making and Building Relationships. I have completed a number of case studies, reflecting on what I have learnt and showing practical examples of where I have put the theory into practice and I have also undertaken a project on implementing a new admin team process.

I provide an efficient, confidential and professional secretarial service to several Ophthalmology Consultants. This mainly consists of Medisoft filing, typing of correspondence and any other secretarial role duties required to enable provision of patient care and speciality services. Good communication with patients, relatives, general practitioners and other hospital staff is essential to ensure a proficient, high quality service for patients and clinicians.As part of this role I have undertaken courses to develop my skills including Minute Taking, Communication Skills and Customer Care and Difficult and Challenging Telephone Conversations. I have also undertaken IAspire, a course aimed to help develop management and supervisory skills. I have excelled in this role and have been accepted onto the Trust’s Accelerated Development Pool.

I provide research administrative and secretarial support in a busy public health research unit.I help with the administration of projects evaluating a UTI leaflet and school education project. I also support personal assistant duties including diary management, organising meetings and events, arranging travel, typing manuscripts and reports, organising paperwork, data entry and data management, ordering stationery, filing and liaising with stakeholders.
