My past work experience includes teaching, social work, service coordination for families of young children with special needs, grant writing, and community organizing. I've also played an active role in mass movements for social change including the peace, anti-apartied, womens, labor, and other social justice movements. I moved to Greensboro from California 12 years ago to help care for my father and to attend a Ph.D. program at UNCG in the dept. of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations. My focus has been "renewing the cultural and environmental commons: creating communities of mutual care, solidarity and reciprocity." I believe we are ripe for creating a radically different way of relating with one another and the earth, and to do so will require a major shift in consciousness and daily life. I am most hopeful about international and local movements working to create localized systems of sharing, bartering, growing food, and cooperative businesses creating jobs and community resilience. Recently I worked within Solar Power Now coalition to advocate for passage of a renewable energy resolution through Greensboro City Council, and am more focused on creating stronger alliances between local sustainability groups.
