Protein chemist with extensive and proven experience in protein biophysical characterization, protein formulation development, and biopharmaceutical process development support. Biophysical characterization of proteins is the best job in the world! I think that understanding how proteins work and learning how to make protein molecules into life-saving therapies is a rewarding privilege. I see it as a rare opportunity to peek into the Lord's vast and amazing handiwork! My experience could be leveraged in any aspect of the biopharmaceutical industry, including contributing to the laboratory and management, working on customer support teams, scientific writing, and even marketing. What are some of my favorite characteristics of proteins, you ask? Wow! That would take a lot of space, but if I had to list a few...1) the inherent chemical information encoded into amino acid sequence that directs the correct folding of a protein into an energy minimized ensemble of stable structures (thank you, Dr. Robert Matthews!); 2) Knowing that proteins are constantly in motion, as if breathing, allowing the flexibility to interact and bind to critical targets, as well as carry out incredible enzymatic reactions (thank you, Dr. Carol Fierke!)! 3) being a scientist allows me the privilege to contribute to the development of biotherapeutics that hold the promise to make lives better. I welcome opportunities to work in this amazing industry in any position that would value and utilize my love of science. If I am working in the lab, some of my favorite assays that I use to peek into the characteristics of proteins would include DSC (gold standard!), DLS, SEC-MALS, CG-MALS, FTIR, CD, Fl, ICD, SVP, and chromatography methods. I still have a lot of techniques and theories that I would LOVE to learn (I get a bit jealous of you talented scientists out there that are rocking it!). Bring on AAV's, AUC, AC-SINS, cryo-EM, Mass Spec, atomic force field microscopy, and anything else that would add to my growing awe of protein molecules. I am very open to learning new skills, new ways of developing in the industry, and novel ways to tap into and use the skills that I have learned along the way.I am so blessed to be a scientist. The younger me could have never imagined where it would take me, from WV to places across the globe. I am looking forward to my next adventure and the great contributors and scientists that I will be fortunate to meet and work alongside.
