I liaised with NHS England, NHS Improvement, UNISON and Medact, among others, to increase our leverage through collaboration and joint action. I worked closely with the media to gain press coverage, as well as responding swiftly to requests for interviews and statements from journalists as they arose. I also managed the website and social media content of the campaign, the supporter mailing list and the campaign newsletter. I researched, compiled and published league tables and reports, as well as writing and publishing news stories, press releases and digital campaign content. I also compiled verbal and written briefings for MPs, Ministers and Peers.Key Achievements:• After pressure from the campaign, NHS Improvement established a committee on hospital food standards - which I sat on - with a commitment to work towards standards to be incorporated into the Health and Social Care Act, and monitored by the Care Quality Commission, by the end of the 18/19 financial year.• The Shadow Minister for Health, Jonathan Ashworth, endorsed the campaign’s policy asks and committed a future Labour Government to bringing in legal hospital food standards and ring-fenced catering budgets.• Debated with Chris Snowden on BBC Radio 5 Live.• Arranged a dinner for Simon Stevens, CEO of NHS England, hosted by Prue Leith.• Convincing Simon Stevens to use NHS England national CQUIN targets(Commissioning for Quality and Innovation) to improve hospital food.• Persuading M&S, Costa, ISS, RVS and WHSmith to meet the new food CQUINtargets.
