About Katherine (Kate) Calhoun

Graduate student studying Social Work with a Leadership, Policy and Social Change/Clinical concentration working with the Mayor's Office of Homeless Services as the support entity for the Baltimore City Continuum of Care.My education and work are driven by my passion for social justice and are guided by the SHARP framework developed by Dr. Wendy Shaia. The SHARP framework is an anti-oppressive lens that encourages social workers (and other professionals) to approach their work with considerations of Structural oppression, Historical context, Analysis of Role, Reciprocity and mutuality, and Power. While my previous experiences are based in direct client service and case management at a family shelter and a transitional shelter for people with HIV, my current interests are geared toward making larger, transformative change to create a more equitable society.
