WIC Registered Dietitian

An internship consisting of 5 different site rotations that specialize in inpatient nutrition, community counseling, outpatient counseling, food service management, and public health.

A public health internship within USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). Focused on Child Nutrition Programs (CNP) and the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). Participated in creating consumer education tools, site visits, meeting management, state communications, data synthesis, and more.

Practiced as a clinical dietitian. Worked with a range of patients including stroke, diabetes, vented, cancer, CKD, and more. Work consisted of educating, counseling, and creating nutrition plans for patients. Experienced using Soarian EMR technology. Had the opportunity to shadow the dietetic manager and learn operational skills used in a hospital setting.

Worked in a nutrition counseling role with emphasis on medical nutrition therapy. A strong focus on low income patients, cancer nutrition therapy, bariatrics, and children with ASD. I had the opportunity to meet a range of clients while also gaining valuable experience with complex populations.

Worked a community counseling setting. Shadowed and coached patients with a multitude of conditions. Work focused on diabetes management, heart failure diet modification, weight management, and eating disorders. I had the privilege of participating in multidisciplinary teams including the coordinated care program which connects dietitians, psychiatrists, therapists, and social workers collaborating on complex patients.

A 6 week rotation shadowing a school dietitian and learning her role in the district. Learned aspects of procurement, budgeting, federal NSLP regulations, and more. Spent a significant amount of time in the cafeterias learning about kitchen management and work.

Mixed appropriate formulas to fortify breast milk or donor breast milk for infants located in both the NICU and other in-patient care.
